TWINSOLA Dual In-Line Superconducting Solenoid Ion-Optical System for Low-Energy Radioactive Nuclear Beam Research TwinSol is a joint project between physicists at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (UM) and University of Notre Dame (UND). It consists of a pair of in-line superconducting solenoid magnets which are installed at the UND Nuclear Structure Laboratory. Each solenoid has a maximum central field of 6 tesla and a large 30 cm warm bore. These solenoids are used to produce, collect, transport, focus, and analyze both stable and radioactive beams. Intense primary beams (1012 / second) of energies up to 10 MeV/u are produced by the 11MV UND FN-Tandem Accelerator and transported into the West Target Room experimental area. Download preprint versions of a paper about TwinSol or a review paper on our use of solenoids for RNB research presented at the 14th International Conference on the Applications of Accelerators in Research and Industry. Additional papers can be found on the Publications page. Now available online: Send Inquiries to: F. Becchetti
